Words are power. Sequences of words—the apt phrase, graceful order, patterns of sound—can build bridges between us . . . or drive us apart. A lifelong bookworm, I am fascinated by how we grow as readers and writers.
Word wonder underscores all I do, whether training Writing Center tutors, designing classes, studying second language writers, drafting creative nonfiction, or supporting my sons in their school work. Though born wordless and often misread and communicate unclearly, we live together in language and can grow to understand self and other.
